onebite & Leigei Stone join Clerkenwell Design Week 2026

The Fountain of Technicolour Beads raises awareness for Colour Vision Deficiency in London.

13 FEBRUARY 2026, LONDON -  One Bite Design Studio is pleased to announce its participation in Clerkenwell Design Week 2026 (CDW26), marking a significant intervention in London’s public realm. In collaboration with innovative material partner Leigei Stone, onebite will transform the open space at Clerkenwell Green into a vibrant sensory experience titled "The Fountain of Technicolour Beads."

As a multi-disciplinary architecture and design studio, onebite is dedicated to promoting inclusivity through design, a vision most recently realised in their accessible playspace projects in Hong Kong. Continuing the studio’s ethos of embedding social messages within every design, this installation is not merely an aesthetic display but a call to action regarding inclusivity in design, specifically raising awareness for Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD), commonly known as colour blindness.

A Spectrum for Everyone

"The Fountain of Technicolour Beads" transforms the abstract concept of colour blindness into a tangible reality. The installation features sculptural stacks of Leigei Stone beads. While the vibrant colours may blur or merge for those with Red, Green, or Blue-Yellow vision deficiencies, the varied tactile forms remain distinct—demonstrating how texture can serve as a universal language when colour fails.

In the UK, over 3 million people are affected by Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD), including approximately 8% of men and 1 in 200 women. Despite this prevalence, urban environments often rely solely on colour-coded systems that create invisible barriers.

By adhering to WCAG guidelines for enhanced accessibility (aiming for a 7:1 contrast ratio) and integrating tactile design, this installation challenges the standard "colour-only" approach. It invites visitors to look through the lens of those with different visual abilities, sparking a critical conversation: in a bustling metropolis like London, are we designing for the "average" eye, or for every eye?

Material Innovation: Precision Meets Sustainability

Central to the installation is the use of Leigei Stone’s signature reconstituted stone, which is composed of over 90% reprocessed natural minerals bonded with premium resin.

To function as a true optical test for colour blindness, the installation requires absolute chromatic precision—a consistency that natural stone cannot guarantee. By utilising Leigei’s engineered stone, the team is able to fine-tune the colour values of the aggregates to exact specifications.

Pushing the boundaries of sustainability further, Leigei experiments with the use of plant-based bio-resins for this project to determine the optimal balance between eco-performance and durability. Upon the exhibition's conclusion, the materials are designed to be fully recyclable and reprocessed, achieving a closed-loop lifecycle that ensures no waste is left behind.

A Proven Partnership

This exhibition marks the latest milestone in the successful partnership between onebite and Leigei Stone. The two firms have previously collaborated to revitalise public spaces in Hong Kong, combining onebite’s placemaking expertise with Leigei’s durable, high-performance stone solutions.

Notable past collaborations include the acclaimed Sai Ying Pun Waterfront Park in Hong Kong. There, Leigei’s materials were instrumental in bringing onebite’s vision of a durable, safe, and visually stimulating community hub to life. At Clerkenwell, this partnership evolves from functional recreational surfaces to a provocative art installation.
