Bringing Community Plant Library to Belfast
For Belfast Community Plant Library, a programme of Belfast Design Week 2026, onebite showcased the Community Plant Map from our Sheung Wan initiative - illustrated by Maoshan Connie in 2023.
The idea behind our Community Plant Library in Hong Kong is that plants can spark connection between people. This September, that idea found a new and experimental form at Belfast Design Week.
Belfast Design Week is an annual multidisciplinary design festival celebrating design in Northern Ireland and beyond. One of the programmes of the 2026 edition, the Belfast Community Plant Library was a collaboration between Blick Shared Studios, Belfast Design Week and onebite. It aims to connect people, place, plants and creativity.
The idea originated from our impromptu meeting with Belfast Design Week in Hong Kong in 2024 where we bonded over their common values and vision for creating meaningful, plant-based community spaces.
On Culture Night 2026 in Mid-September, Belfast’s Bankmore Square came alive with people, place, and plants. The event united woodworking, a plant clinic, interactive design installation, workshops, and the plant library. onebite brought our Community Plant Map from our Sheung Wan project, and a Belfast Community Library zine, and a flax seed kit.
The Belfast event also collected stories from local people about their experiences with plants: their gardens, their memories and the green places that matter to them. Read these stories here.
