HKIA Special Award for Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival: A win for (more than) a village

5th November 2025, Hong Kong

One Bite Design Studio has been awarded the HKIA Special Award - Architectural Installation, Curation & Exhibition Design for our work on the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival (SKHAF) 2022-2024. This recognition is deeply meaningful because the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival was more than just a project; it was a landmark event for Hong Kong, a three-year journey shared with many, and a true labour of love.

The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) hosted its Annual Dinner cum Annual Awards 2025 Presentation Ceremony on 31st October 2025. One Bite Design Studio received the Special Award - Architectural Installation, Curation & Exhibition Design for the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival 2022-2024.

Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Commission, curated by onebite, and supported by the Hong Kong Geopark, the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival gathered Sai Kung villagers, local and international artists, local community groups, and visitors to celebrate the community culture and the beauty of nature of Sai Kung Town and its surrounding islands, including Yim Tin Tsai, Sharp Island, Kau Sai Chau, and High Island. Not only was the art-heritage celebration the first of its kind in Hong Kong, but it also thoughtfully weaves together public art and placemaking to create a lasting, positive impact on the community.

A project of this magnitude is never a solo endeavour. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but to bring the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival to life, it truly took a whole nation. From the initial concept to the final installation, over the course of seasons of planning and creation, hundreds of individuals poured their hearts and expertise into this festival. Each person was priceless in weaving together the memories and rich history that made SKHAF so special.

Together, we did not just create installations; we brought life to meaningful experiences that connect people to place, and place to people. This award is not just ours; it belongs to every single person who believed in this vision and worked tirelessly to make it a reality.

This award is a testament to the power of collaboration, community, and creative placemaking. We are so proud of what we built together. We at onebite cordially invite you to go down memory lane with us and give it up for all the incredible souls behind the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival 2022-2024, a three-year cultural and tourism event connecting communities around this heritage gem of the Sai Kung islands.
