[The Wall of Calmness]
Type: Outdoor | Installation
Location: Salisbury Garden, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
Client: Hong Kong Cultural Centre, HKSAR Government
Hong Kong Cultural Centre has commission CoLAB in collaboration with One Bite Design Studio for the designing of this water barrier project. The intention of this device is to separate the construction site traffic to the Museum of Art from the visitors of the newly opened Salisbury Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Instead of a traditional approach of utilising traffic road blocks, the design of this project incorporates elements of water and bamboo as means to separate and absorb dust from the construction site traffic. The dynamic movements of the water feature and lines of bamboo slowly dancing in the wind recreates a natural sense of environment as a counter-balance of the site currently in construction. The night view of this project is particularly enjoyable, with the movement of the water feature and the shadows of the bamboo creating a dynamic sphere in front of the static Tsim Sha Tsui nightscape.
