Green Ladies & Green Little (GL) is a secondhand fashion consignment store located in Wanchai, Hong Kong. Collaborating with our client St. James Settlement and the branding consultant CoLAB, the design reveals the dignity of green shopping and secondhand fashion, and to also transform general perception that charity shops usually sell low-quality unwanted donated goods in an unappealing environment.

One Bite has translated our client’s business ethos into the spatial and interior design of the project in various ways. Instead of a luxurious shopfront of any normal retailers, a floating box full of secondhand clothes tries to attract shoppers’ attention on the environmental and societal problem of over-consuming in an artistic way. The racking system of the clothes recreates a meandering environment of a green forest for customers to scroll around, providing them the space to think carefully before they buy. Dressing rooms, which includes three hanging hooks for “yes, second thought, no” installed in each of them, are located the heart of the shop to reflect the importance of rational and sensible buying. Supported by the client, upcycled materials with minimal treatments were widely used for the interior fixtures of the project. All interior fixtures were flexibly designed in order to be reused by other stores as needed.

The project has recently been awarded as “the Hong Kong Retail Interior Design of the Year 2017” at the BUILD Architecture Awards 2017 in the U.K.
