An Exhibition about Repositioning Market Architecture in Asia

Trading is the catalyst of city development, from village to empire, from rural fabric to urbanisation, from industrialization to modern cities. We normally see trading in the form of monetary exchange and financial cycle, but the architectural expressions of trading have always been suppressed and neglected - the Market Architecture. The oldest form of the place of gathering and exchange, has been long forgotten. A team of architects and educators from cities in Asia come together at “Re: Market” exhibition to reposition the architectural and cultural significances of market architecture in our Asian context. Focusing on 5 propositions: Retrace, Rethink, Re-edit, Regenerate, and Reconnect, the exhibits in “Re: Market” will explore the future of Market in the various perspectives of city-living - social, economic, environmental, and cultural evolution.
